Julie Taylor is one of Jan Richardson's distinguished guided reading consultants. She began working as a guided reading trainer in Pinellas County, FL, where she personally worked with, and was trained by Jan Richardson.  Julie has provided guided reading professional development, training, lesson modeling, and coaching throughout the county’s 77 elementary schools, and its thousands of teachers, staff, and administrators.

Currently, Julie travels throughout the United States and internationally, providing Next Step guided reading training to teachers, administrators, literacy coaches, intervention teachers, and reading specialists. She also presents "Next Steps for Struggling Readers", "Oh, Snap! You CAN Close the Achievement Gap!", and "Conquering Comprehension" at state and national reading conferences around the country.

Julie has over 24 years of teaching experience in elementary education, special education, and teaching English Language learners.  She previously served as a Title I Reading Intervention Specialist for Santa Rosa County, Florida and has been a practicum mentor for teachers seeking their reading endorsement.  Julie earned her bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Spanish, her Master of Education degree in Teaching English as a Second Language and Bilingual Education, and is currently completing her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction, with a concentration on Reading, Language, and Literacy.

Julie works with districts to create a balanced literacy curriculum, including reading and writing workshop, guided reading, Tier 1 curriculum, and Tier 2 & 3 interventions.  She is also available to train dual-language teachers in delivering guided reading instruction in Spanish.  Julie has a wealth of resources readily available to assist districts with curriculum and instruction, professional development, and teacher training, and is always up to date with the latest in literacy research.
